This comes as getting a test result can take up to 8 hours after the sample is collected. The airport charges passengers INR 3,900 per test, and among the newly included facilities are round the clock availability of hot and cold beverages (upon request), and the ability to pick food items from a special menu along with unlimited internet access to make the wait somewhat tolerable for those landing in the city.

CSMIA started conducting RT-PCR tests from September 6. The airport said in a statement that over 8,000 passengers have opted to take this service since its launch comprising of 1,090 women and 6,910 men. Of these people, only 100 have tested positive, the statement further said.

Testing facilities are now available at Arrival and Departure gates of the city’s airport. Officials say that the RT-PCR testing in the airport is among the fastest in Mumbai, thus making air travel safer for those at risk.
