Based on accounts, Sanju Francis, Mukesh Kumar Patel, Satyambad Patra and Vijay Mandloi, who were 30, 55, 27 and 32 respectively, were airlifted at nearly 1.46 pm by the Indian Navy helicopters. They were then taken to the Juhu airbase, remarked the Indian Coast Guard spokesperson.
Narratives suggest that the search and rescue operations were in force for almost two hours amidst challenging weather conditions.
The death of four individuals has been attributed to the fact that the helicopter plying for the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) had to make an emergency landing off the Mumbai coast on Tuesday.
It has been reported that the helicopter had nine people on board and was ditched in the sea 60 nautical miles away from Mumbai. This transpired near Sagar Kiran rig on Tuesday morning.
The helicopter was stated to be a new Sikorsky S 76 D, operated by Pawan Hans and had a call sign VT- PWI.
