This year, participants below the age of 14 were banned from participating in Dahi Handi festival. Also, it was mandatory for the participants, who climb to the top of the human pyramid, to wear a safety harness. However, nothing of this sort was followed as many Dahi Handi groups used children below the age of 14.

On the day of the festival, 219 people were injured while one died. By Tuesday night, various police stations across the city filed cases for violating safety norms.
