1 Rupee Clinic (EMR) which is providing basic treatment at a nominal rate, at Mumbai Railway stations, will shut down. 1 Rupee Clinic director, Dr. Rahul Ghule on Monday gave a letter to the Central Railways and said that there is unnecessary political pressure on him to stop the service.

The EMR clinics were introduced with an idea to provide immediate treatment for passengers in emergency situations and the initiative received a good response from Mumbaikars too. More than 50,000 patients have been treated via these clinics. Despite that, the clinics are still being pressured to shut down.

Earlier, 20 stations on Central Railway were planned to have the 1 Rupee Clinic service and only 12 stations got the facility. However, eight EMRs have not been set up until now. To this, Dr. Rahul Ghule claimed that the deposit for 20 EMRs was filed in April last year.

In the letter written to Central Railways, Dr. Rahul Ghule has said that the clinics at the railway stations will be closed and will re-open at another place and not at the railway station.

It has come to light that 1 Rupee Clinics at Mulund, Vashi and Vikhroli stations will be shut first and then the rest. Ghule said that “we have taken this decision because of pressure from political parties and administration.”

These clinics will be started on Western Railways and for every month, ₹2.5 lakh will be given to maintain, and for the expenditure of, the clinic. However, “there is no help from the Central Railways,” as of now, even though we are pressing for the closure of these clinics.
