Veteran narrator  Ameen Sayani passed away at a hospital on Tuesday night. He was 91 years old. He suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night. He was immediately admitted to the  H. N. hospital, but he breathed his last there. He will be cremated on Thursday.


 Ameen Sayani performed Binaca songs on the radio for many years saying 'Behno aur bhaiyo, agli paydanpe hai ye gana…'.  Ameen Sayani not only did voice overs but also interviewed many singers, songwriters and musicians and recorded the creative journey of their songs.

 Ameen Sayani, born in 1932 in Mumbai, started his career on Aakashvani as an announcer in English. After the independence of the country, he started making presentations in Hindi and popularised the program Binaca Geetmala, reciting stories and songs in fluent Hindi in his sweet voice.


Geetmaala is recorded as the longest running program from 1952 to 1994. He had said in an interview that he could not sing because his voice broke. He made up for it by listening to a lot of songs. There was never again a narrator like Ameen Sayani, known as the unanointed emperor of sound.
