The Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund has managed to collect donations worth ₹245 crores in support of the state’s fight against coronavirus outbreak. In his statement addressing the people on Thursday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the people of Maharashtra have joined the state government in the war against the virus. 

“Till today, ₹245 crores have been deposited in the relief fund to provide a helping hand to the government in the fight against coronavirus,” he said.

As per CM Thackeray, along with cash donations, people have stepped up by offering help in the form of food grains, the supply of food and shelter to the needy people. He further added that contributions made to the relief fund can be claimed as a deduction under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

In the meantime, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the state crossed 3,202 on Thursday, April 16, with 286 people testing positive throughout the day. As per the data released by the State Health Ministry on Thursday, 56,673 tests were conducted and 52,762 people tested negative for coronavirus and 3,202 people tested positive, so far. Moreover, 71,076 people have been asked to home-quarantine whereas 6,108 people were institutionally quarantined by the government.

On Thursday, the state recorded seven deaths from COVID-19, three of which are from Mumbai and the remaining fatalities were recorded from Pune. 

Also, the state government is pondering on selectively easing restrictions in certain industrial areas, from Monday, April 20. There will be stringent safety conditions that will be imposed for industries that will be open. The indication of this was given by Industry Minister Subhash Desai.
