With the traders opposing the state government’s directive to close all shops apart from the ones selling essential goods, the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce has warned to resume the operations from Monday, April 12, as informed by President Santosh Mandlecha and Vice President Lalit Gandhi.

Despite the government's order to close the shops, the union had earlier warned to resume operations in all the shops from Friday, April 9. After a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the traders' association has decided to postpone the decision for three days.

Meanwhile, several business owners have reportedly been angered as an atmosphere of confusion has been created amongst all traders in the state. Even though the rules issued by the state government had made it clear that shops other than essential services would be closed only on weekends, however, without prior notice, the Mumbai Police ordered the closure of all shops.

Meanwhile, the shops are to remain closed till April 30, which is likely to cause huge losses to the business community. Therefore, once again, there is a demand from the business community and political leaders to issue new regulations.

On the other hand, on Thursday, April 8, Maharashtra reported 56,286 fresh cases of the coronavirus along with 376 deaths, taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 3,229,547 and toll to 57,028. Moreover, the active cases in the state have now touched 521,317. The cumulative case fatality rate in the state is now 1.76 per cent. On Wednesday, a total of 236,815 tests were held, with a positivity rate of 23 per cent for the day.
