Mumbaikars shell out Rs 100 for penguin glimpse at Byculla zoo

Mumbaikars will now have to fork out Rs 100 for a glimpse of the Humboldt penguins housed in Byculla zoo (Rani Baug).

The penguin viewing gallery was kept free until 31 March and charges have been levied effective 1 April -. Rs. 100 for adults and Rs. 50 for children under the age of 12.

The entry fee to the zoo has been hiked by 10 per cent. The last hike had been in 2003, when the entry fee was made Rs 5 for adults and Rs 2 for children. The Byculla zoo has been undergoing a series of renovations since 2012.

 Currently, the biggest attraction in the zoo are the seven penguins who have attracted as much political cynosure as public attention. Zoo officials estimate that ten lakh persons  have already viewed the penguins since they were shifted to the public viewing gallery from 17 March 2017.
