Aiming to curb air pollution, the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, in its verdict, refused to put a complete ban on the sale, use, and manufacturing of firecrackers across the country. However, the apex court ordered a partial ban with several conditions saying that only green firecrackers - less polluting - will be sold.

The top court also restricted the sale of firecrackers on internet and e-commerce websites. While allowing the sale of less polluting crackers, SC restricted the timings to burst crackers between 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This decision comes 15 days ahead of Diwali which is on November 7. However, the apex court reserved its decision on August 28.

Supreme Court took this decision replying to a plea seeking the ban on manufacturing, sale, and use of firecrackers for curbing air pollution. The matter was heard by a bench of Justice AK Sikri along with Justice Ashok Bhushan.
