Mumbai city is always riddled with potholes and the situation becomes grave during monsoons. The Supreme Court has slammed Central Government over the potholes which are posing to be a threat to both Mumbaikars and Delhi residents.

A petition was filed in SC with regards to the road safety across the country. During the hearing, the SC criticised Central Government for not taking precautionary measures against potholes and has ordered the former to give information on the same as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, despite the potholes, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the Maharashtra Monsoon Session Assembly, that there are only 4,000 potholes across Mumbai.

As per the petition, Delhi being the capital of India and Mumbai, a financial capital of India, both the cities are becoming a hell hole. In 2016, 1.60 lakh people died in road accidents. Most of these deaths were caused due to potholes. Amongst these, 51 per cent of people who died belonged to the age group of 18 to 30.
