On July 17, Thane and Kalyan-Dombivali crossed the 15,000 mark with regards to cases of coronavirus. Thane reported 342 cases on Friday, taking the tally to 15,174 cases whereas Kalyan-Dombivali clocked 407 cases on Friday taking the tally to 15,005 cases. The question that is now being asked is whether in light of the surge in cases, the coronavirus included lockdown would be extended or not.

While the lockdown in Thane and KDMC ends on Sunday, the one in Mira-Bhayandar ends on Saturday. To contain the spread of the contagious disease, the Thane Municipal Corporation had earlier declared to extend the total lockdown till July 19. Therefore, a complete lockdown has been observed in Thane from 7 pm on July 12 and will remain in effect till 7:00 pm on July 19. Prior to this, TMC had imposed a complete lockdown from July 2 to 12 which was extended till July 19 in light of the new cases of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, as many as 1,910 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Thursday, July 16, 2020, in the Thane district, which took the tally to 62,398 cases. According to a senior official, 48 more patients succumbed to the infection. Of the 48 deaths, Thane city and the power loom town of Bhiwandi reported 13 each in the district. The death toll in the district has increased to 1,774. Thane district accounts for 22.60 per cent of the total cases and 16.23 per cent of the deaths in the state. On the other hand, Kalyan added 524 cases, taking the total to 14,598 total positive cases. In Thane city, the tally had reached 14,832 cases after 413 more people tested positive for the contagious disease on July 16.

On the other hand, Maharashtra, On July 17, recorded 8,308 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease, which took the overall tally of confirmed cases to 2,92,589, according to the state health department.
