In the midst of all the bad news regarding COVID-19, one story from Mumbai is sure to lift some spirits. Arjun Naringrekar, aged 100 years, was just discharged from the Hindu Heart Emperor Hospital earlier this week after being fully cured of the coronavirus, showing that age is just a number for a fortunate few.

Coincidentally, he was discharged from the hospital on the eve of his 101st birthday, offering two great reasons to celebrate on his special day. What made the moment even more memorable was the touching gesture by the hospital staff who saw Naringrekar off with a round of applause.

The 101-year-old offered his gratitude to the hospital staff as well as the healthcare workers who were instrumental in saving his life. Within the hospital, this is considered nothing short of a miracle given his age. The elderly are considered to be at the highest risk of dying from the coronavirus given that the virus usually attacks the respiratory system, eventually creating a shortage of oxygen in the body.

Naringrekar was admitted to the hospital on the 1st of July due to complications that were eventually confirmed to be COVID-19. He spent a total of two weeks at the Hindu Heart Emperor Hospital and was finally discharged earlier this week.

However, the rest of Mumbai is struggling to cope with the virus as several regions in and around the metropolitan city reporting new cases. On Friday, Ulhasnagar recorded 202 fresh cases taking the total tally of positive cases to 5,046.
