Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has decided to set up a pet park which will comprise of a hospital, a crematorium and recreational facilities for street dogs. The project which was approved last week by the standing committee might start working on it in a couple of months.

One of the TMC officials said that the main objective of the park was to give street dogs a healthy environment to stay and better medical facilities. He added that currently, street dogs undergo vaccination and surgeries at the TMC dog control centre in Wagle Estate but there is not enough space to keep animals for a couple of days. He further said that hence the civic body wants to build a proper home for them with better facilities.

They have allotted a space as well in Kavesar for the project. Civic sources said that the pet park would later be handed over to an NGO, which would take care of all the activities and the stay of the dogs.
