The Mumbai Police on Wednesday, January 26, said that they have arrested seven people of an inter-state gang, in connection with printing and distribution of counterfeit notes.

Moreover, the city crime branch seized fake Indian currency with a total face value of ₹7 crores from Mumbai.

Upon receiving information that four people travelling from a cab would cross Dahisar check naka (toll plaza) on Tuesday night, January 25, Mumbai crime branch’s unit 11 sleuths they laid a trap and intercepted the car around 8 pm.

Officials stated that total 250 bundles of fake notes of face value of ₹2,000 were recovered from the car. The total value of 25,000 fake notes is of ₹5 crores.

The four persons taken into custody, they revealed that rest of their associates are in a hotel at Andheri.

Later, a raid was conducted at hotel Ampha, near Andheri Subway, where police recovered another 100 bundles of fake notes with face value of ₹2,000, total amounting ₹2 crores. Three persons were arrested from there, said officials.

Besides counterfeit notes, the police have recovered a laptop, seven mobile phones, ₹28,170 in genuine currency, Aadhaar and PAN cards and driving licences, among other things, from the gang members.

The accused were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till January 31.
