Heavy rains and gusty winds in the wake of cyclone Tauktae affected Mumbai in many ways. According to reports, several low lying areas witnessed water-logging, while suburban train services on Central and Western Railways were also affected.
In addition, many tree-fall were also reported in various areas of Mumbai.
A large tree collapsed due to a storm in the CGS Colony area of Wadala in Mumbai, due to this, it caused great damage to the water pipeline.
However, upon receiving the information, the Assistant Engineer Water Works (Emergency Repair Department-Worli) rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, the officials also had to face obstacles while repairing the pipeline due to water-logging in the area. After six hours of untiring efforts, the water supply was finally restored by repairing the aqueduct. Though the pipeline was undergoing maintenance works, locals received a low-pressure water supply for two days in Wadala CGS Colony.
The ruptured water pipe was then repaired. “This time we had to face big obstacles. However, after six hours of untiring efforts, the aqueduct was finally repaired and the water supply was restored,” said Jeevan Patil, Assistant Engineer, Water Works Department.
With the help of JCB, fire brigade, park department and assistant engineer waterworks (emergency repair department-Worli) and locals, the fallen trees were removed.
On Monday, May 17, the city of Mumbai reported 132 incidents of trees collapsing due to Cyclone Tauktae.
Moreover, in Thane, five vehicles and a house suffered damage in separate incidents of tree falls in the lake city over the last 24 hours.
