Hemant Nagrale, the Mumbai Police Commissioner has instructed the traffic officers to wear their uniforms while on duty. He has especially asked them to do so when they are collecting fines for the flouting of covid-19 norms on the roads.

On Thursday, he proclaimed the order that as traffic police, when imposing traffic rules and covid-19 norms, according to the law, penal action is taken against those who flout the rules. The officers should be wearing uniforms when undertaking action. However, it was brought to his attention that in some instances, officers were discharging their duty in normal clothes.

Considering this, those with criminal tendencies are taking advantage of the said circumstance. People pose to be the police and dupe citizens by asking them for money.

Some reports cite that he has warned of strict action if the said orders aren’t adhered to.

In other news, he had recently also directed the traffic police to refrain from stopping vehicles to check them. Instead, he asked that they focus on regulating the traffic. This comes when it was noticed that vehicles when halted for the examination resulted in traffic congestion.
