Preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai have begun, considering that the festival is a few months away. Amidst the backdrop of coronavirus, the state government had issued a set of guidelines on how the festival will be celebrated this year. Apart from restricting the height of the idol in the public arena to 4 feet, constraints have also been brought in for celebrations at home. Idols at home cannot be taller than 2 feet. Guidelines in regards to immersion and materials of the idols were also placed.

This year, with the second wave of covid-19 and the additional crisis the state faced due to heavy rains and floods, the Ganpati pandals have decided to celebrate the festival in a simple manner.

Similar to last year, the community intends to hold a health program this year, as well. Moreover, the amount will be provided to help those affected by the floods in villages in Maharashtra, by avoiding additional expenses during the celebration.

Since many pandals in Mumbai have come forward to assist the flood victims, many are also of the opinion that emphasis should be placed on vaccinations of Ganpati pandal workers. In light of the same, this year, the festivity will be noted as a health and relief festival.
