The BMC on Tuesday announced that Ganpati and Navratri idol makers can make applications for permission offline as well. In order to construct temporary pandals for sculptors who curate as well as sell idols, they need to possess the required BMC permits. Like last year, this service is also made available offline.

It is important to note, however, that permits will only be granted to those who create and sell sculptors themselves. Those individuals, who seek to build pandals for the sale of imported and finished idols will not be granted authorization. The circular that contains details of fees and other criteria for 2021 that individuals may require, will be made available in the 24 ward offices as well as online, on the BMC website.

The Maharashtra government, last week also issued guidelines in regards to the height restrictions of Ganesh idols. Strict regulations have been brought in place for the Ganesh festivities that are set to commence on 10th September’21. Similar to last year, the height of idols at pandals in the public arena have been limited to 4 feet. In addition, constraints in idol height have also been announced for those celebrating the festival at home, with the idol height required to be no taller than 2 feet. People have also been requested to make use of marble and metal idols and if they do decide to utilize clay or other materials, “visarjan” needs to be conducted at home or at artificial ponds.

Public organizers are also notified to offer online darshan facilities to curb crowds, coupled with the advocation for sanitization, fumigation and cleanliness.
