The resident of K K Modi Chawl has been shifted to the transit camp in the name of redevelopment. What seems very strange is that it has been an arduous journey of 19 long years in the transit camp for the residents. There are few residents who are wandering in search of rented flat but to their dismay, nothing is working in their favour.

Those who were staying inside the chawl were asked to vacate on the immediate basis as the chawl was declared dilapidated in 2000. Life of residents in the transit camp is worse.

Redevelopment work of KK Modi Chawl started way back in 1992 under the charge of M B Builders. The redevelopment work faced strong opposition and hence it didn’t start. Even then the builder shifted 84 of them in the transit camp who submitted papers to the builder.

Residents have taken the baton in their hand after being tortured for years. They are approaching High Court for help. The decision was in the favour of residents and builder’s NOC has been cancelled. Court has issued No- Objection Certificate against the builder to start the redevelopment work as early as possible.

8 years have passed since NOC was issued but there is no sign of redevelopment. Resident Suresh Nagap has requested Court to blacklist the builder. MHADA is not taking any strong action against the builder in regard with redevelopment. When Mumbai Live contacted builder he disconnected the phone stating that from where did you get my number, call in the office. When tried in the office the person was unavailable for the comment.
