In a last-ball thriller, India registered a victory against Bangladesh in the final of Asia cup 2018 and became the Asian champions for the seventh time. The Indian team was led by stand-in captain Rohit Sharma after regular captain Virat Kohli was rested for the tournament in UAE. After the victory, the Indian vice-captain stated that whenever the opportunity shows up, he’ll be ready for the responsibility of full-time captainship.

The Men in Blue have won two crucial multi-nation tournaments under Sharma’s captaincy – the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and Asia Cup 2018 in Dubai.

Sharma emphasised that the most important aspect of being a stand-in captain is to allow the players accordingly without keeping their positions in the team in mind.

It's a challenge for any team when few of your senior players are rested. Obviously, they will make a comeback and few of the guys have to miss out. Every team is doing that and also guys understand that,” said Rohit.

While the Mumbai Indians skipper was satisfied with their performance throughout the tournament, he pointed out that the No.4 and No.6 position is shaky and look unsettled. However, he further went on to assure that the picture for the same will get clearer as the World Cup 2019 draws closer.

Sharma also stated that the conditions made fitness an important aspect as it was really difficult to cope up with the fitness in Dubai. However, he was all praises for his spinners who put on an impactful show throughout the tournament,

"Even today (Friday), if you see, the way Bangladesh started in the first 10-15 overs and after that the way our spinners brought us back in the game. Our spinners' performance in the last six-eight months has been consistent. It's been a positive sign."

Meanwhile, the Indian team will now play two Test matches against West Indies who will be on a tour in India from October 4 to November 11. The Caribbean team will play two Test matches, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20s.
