Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today, November 1, unveiled the grand statue of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is positioned adjacent to the Sachin Tendulkar stand.

The statue was initially planned to be unveiled earlier in the year, on the occasion of Tendulkar's 50th birthday in April. However, since there were a few finishing touches that needed to be added to the structure and hence, the unveiling was pushed back.

This 22-feet statue of the great batsman Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar has been built by the Mumbai Cricket Association at the Wankhede Stadium and has been created by international painter-sculptor Pramod Kamble from Ahmednagar. It is a tribute to Tendulkar's illustrious career and contribution to Indian cricket.

It is pertinent to note that this development came a day ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka match that is scheduled on November 2, 2 pm.

On this occasion, Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar with his family, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Senior leader MP Sharad Pawar, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sanjay Bansod, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah, BCCI Treasurer & MLA Ashish Shelar, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Amol Kale, Secretary Ajinkya Naik, Joint Secretary Deepak Patil, Mumbai Cricket Association officials and members were present.

According to reports, the selected pose, after scouring thousands of action images of Tendulkar, finally zeroed down to the memorable sixer shot in a lofted drive pose, with his left leg extended, body slightly bent, head high and the bat pointing at the sky, and had the personal approval of the cricketing giant.

Tendulkar's statue was installed nearly 10 years after he played his last game for India, against the West Indies in a two-match Test series in November 2013.
