Mumbai teen Siddharth Mohite is eyeing to set a new world record for surviving at the crease for a whopping 72 hours and five minutes during a marathon net session since Friday night, February 25.

With this, the 19-year-old Mohite passed compatriot Virag Mane's 50-hour record, created in 2015. He is now waiting for the Guinness Book of World Record to recognise the feat.

In a media release, Siddharth Mohite revealed that he wanted to do something extraordinary, after the lockdown affected two years of his cricketing career.

"I am very happy that I completed what I was trying. This was one way I wanted to show people that I have something extra in me," Mohite further added.

"Due to the COVID-19 lockdown I lost two good cricketing years which was a big loss. So, I thought of doing something different and randomly this thought came to me and then I contacted many academies and coaches," he shared.

Mohite also attributed this to his mentor Jwala Singh, who has also coached young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, for supporting him in his endeavour. "Everyone said no to me. Then I contacted Jwala Sir and he said why not? He supported me all the way and provided whatever was required," added Mohite.

While Mare had faced both bowlers and a bowling machine during his record, Mohite was only facing bowlers.
