The Anil Kumble-led ICC Cricket Committee decided in favor of the coin toss in Test Match and did not scrap the the century long ritual. The two-day meeting also laid emphasis on issues like Player behavior and playing conditions for the upcoming World Test Championship. The committee also hinted stricter rules for ball tampering incidents.

The coin toss ritual was debated by many former cricketers as well as cricketing experts, amongst whom many calling out to banish it but ICC Cricket Committee made the final call.

“The Committee discussed whether the toss should be automatically awarded to the visiting team but felt that it was an integral part of Test cricket which forms part of the narrative of the game,” the press release from ICC said.

The committee also put forward a points system for the World Test Championship which is to be commenced in 2019. Along with this, a proposal for a reserve day for the Test Championship Final has also been proposed. These proposals will be put forward to the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee.

MCC’s World Cricket Committee, Mike Gatting along with David Boon, ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees representative were also present at the match.
