With the IPL 2020 auction currently underway, the Mumbai Indians are off to a good start by nabbing Chris Lynn for his base price of Rs 2 crore. Further, the team also managed to get Nathan Coulter-Nile for a whopping Rs 8 crore.

It’s clear that Chris Lynn, despite being sold for a fraction of what players like Coulter-Nile and Pat Cummins (Rs 15.5 crores) went for, will be one of the stars of the franchise going into the 2020 season. It’s also interesting that Mumbai’s purse prior to the auction of Rs 13.05 crores was lesser than what Pat Cummins was sold for to the Kolkata Knight Riders earlier today.
This suggests that Mumbai Indians is pretty much done with international player bids for the time being with only a fraction of the total amount left to spend on players. Mumbai is expected to bid on more domestic talent as the auction progresses.
Mumbai Indians have retained several players ahead of the auction which includes players like skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, and more. The team also traded in players like Trent Boult (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Sherfane Rutherford (Delhi Capitals), and local lad Dhawal Kulkarni (Rajasthan Royals) not too long ago.
