On Thursday, March 24, gut-wrenching news for MS Dhoni fans came to light when the cricketer decided to step down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the lead up to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Following his decision, Ravindra Jadeja will be leading the team. With these developments, Jadeja has become the third player to lead CSK.

The team in its statement said, “Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.”  In the aftermath of the news, fans took to Twitter to share their reactions.

Wasim Jaffer, an ex-cricketer who is known for sharing his witty reactions, did not fall short.

Another fan on the social media platform went on to laud Dhoni's legacy. The fan said, "12 seasons as CSK captain, 9 finals and 4 trophies. Mad success as a captain, one of the mastermind of the game."

Not just fans, even the rival team, Rajasthan Royals elucidated its gratitude for having played against the captain.

Moreover, revered cricket commentator, Harsha Bhogle articulated his emotions regarding Dhoni's decision by saying, "We use the expression "end of an era" very loosely sometimes. But Dhoni giving up the captaincy of @ChennaiIPL is truly the end of an era for all those loyal fans with whom he forged a relationship of the kind very few have."

Dhoni's fan clubs took Twitter by storm by showering their appreciation by calling him the best captain and thanking him, some groups even went on to say that MSD commenced his captaincy journey with a trophy and ended it with a trophy as well.
