Former Indian pacer Manoj Prabhakar has applied for the women’s national team coach’s post, and if he is shortlisted, the seamer will be interviewed by a panel led by former teammate Kapil Dev. The Prabhakar-Kapil acrimony is renowned in the Indian cricket circles right from their playing days. The cricketer confirmed his candidature on Sunday.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had advertised for the chief coach’s post after Ramesh Powar’s term ended on November 30 and thus, the board asked the interested individuals to apply. Accordingly, Prabhakar had applied for the post along with South African player Herschelle Gibbs.

It would be an honour to serve the country's national cricket team in any capacity,” Prabhakar said.

The veteran pacer is undeniably one of the greatest minds in cricket but it would be noteworthy to see if he gets shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by a panel headed by Kapil Dev, with other members being Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy.

The application deadline ends on December 14 and Manoj Prabhakar, Herschelle Gibbs and Dimitri Mascarenhas are among the applicants.
