Rohit Sharma-led Indian team clinched the Asia Cup title for the seventh time after a final-ball victory against Bangladesh. With the end to Asia Cup 2018, Team India will now play West Indies who will be on a tour from October 4 to November 11. The tour will kick off with a Test match on October 4 in Rajkot. The two-match Test series is said to be the selection ground for the selectors and players before the tour of Australia.

According to reports, BCCI will be announcing the Test squad on Sunday and accordingly, chances for changes in the squad are very low which means that the squad will be a pretty balanced side with minimal surprises. Thus, the chances for Prithvi Shaw’s debut are truly high during the first Test match against West Indies.

The opening position has been a crucial problem for India in recent times. The team has been struggling to find the right combination for a long time and had a difficult time at the top in the Test series against England. Therefore, the selectors are willing to have a look at another option for the opening position.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan is expected to replace Murali Vijay who was exempted from the team after his dry run-form during the England tour. Currently, Vijay is playing for Essex County. In addition to that, the selectors are diplomatic about the inclusion of Mayank Agarwal for the upcoming Test series. However, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin will have to pass the fitness test on Sunday in order to get their places in the squad fixed.

Rohit Sharma may be the No.6 batsman along with regular wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. The inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja along with Kuldeep Yadav is expected too. However, as per the reports, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are said to be rested for the two-match Test series as a precaution for the upcoming tour of Australia.
