Mumbai Indians Becomes the First Team to Qualify for IPL 2020 Playoffs

Although Mumbai Indians got off to a rocky start in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League by losing the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings, the team has now officially become the first to qualify for the Dream11 IPL 2020 Playoffs.

This came as the crucial clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders went down to the wire, with CSK edging through in the last over thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s last-minute burst.

It’s worth noting that CSK was the first team to be eliminated from this year’s edition of the IPL after poor performances during the middle-stages of the tournament. 

Meanwhile, Thursday’s match was almost a do-or-die game for KKR and the team will now have to rely on other results while also making sure they win their last group stage match with a huge margin.

Mumbai Indians currently sits on top of the table with 16 points and a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR), though their positioning in the Playoffs is not certain yet. The team has two group stage games left against the Delhi Capitals (Saturday) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (Tuesday).

Winning both games will hand Mumbai a top of the table finish heading into the Playoffs as no other team can achieve 10 wins (20 points) even with their remaining games. 

The CSK win against KKR also made qualification chances easier for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (2nd) and the Delhi Capitals (3rd). The fourth spot on the table is currently held by Kings XI Punjab, though teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals still hold a slim chance of making the cut. 

The last few games of the group stages are expected to be closely contested as teams vie for the all-important Playoffs spot. Mumbai Indians will take on the Delhi Capitals in their next game scheduled to take place in Dubai at 3:30 PM on Saturday (Oct 31).
