Shashank Manohar re-elected as the ICC Chairman to serve his second term

Over the last two years, Manohar has led significant reforms in the sport including the appointment of the ICC’s first independent female director.

Shashank Manohar, former BCCI president was once again elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. Earlier, Manohar was elected as the chairman in 2016 and on Tuesday, May 15, he was re-elected unopposed to serve his second term. Born in a Brahmin family in Nagpur, Manohar is a lawyer by profession.

"It is an honour to be re-elected as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their continued support. Together we have made big strides over the last two years, fulfilling promises I made to the sport when I was appointed in 2016," Manohar said in an ICC media release.

Over the last two years, Manohar has led significant reforms in the sport including the appointment of the ICC’s first independent female director.

As per the election procedure, ICC Directors were each permitted to nominate one candidate, who had served as a past ICC Director or was a present ICC Director. Any nominee must have the support to contest an election but since Manohar was the only contender, Audit Committee Chairman, Edward Quinlan, who was overseeing the election declared Manohar as the successful candidate.

Manohar has served twice as the President of the BCCI and hails from a family where everyone including his father, brother, sister, son are all lawyers.
