Indian Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli can be considered as one of the greatest players ever to have played for India and is arguably the world's finest cricketer currently. Kohli grew as a player and also diverted his anger to his passion to score runs and ended the 2010s becoming the highest run-scorer.

While he did not have a great start during his initial matches for India, his game improved over the years owing to his commitment to the game. His stature grew after his role in the ICC World Cup 2011 as he played some game-changing knocks to help India advance towards lifting the World Cup.

Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth who headed the selection panel for India’s 2011 World Cup squad has said that it was the selection panel of that time who backed Kohli and gave him chances to flourish.

He further added that when he took over as the chairman in 2008, he dreamt of building a perfect team to win the ICC World Cup 2011. The former India opener also said that to see Kohli grow into one of the best has been ‘very satisfying’.

When I took over as the chairman in 2008, my dream was to build a team that could win the 2011 World Cup. God has been kind and we had a captain like MS Dhoni, and the win was still one of the best moments of my cricketing journey. So lifting a trophy once as a player and then as a selector is no mean feat for anyone,” said Srikkanth told The Times of India.

Srikkanth also expressed that they (selection committee of World Cup 2011 squad) were the ones who gave Virat Kohli the chance to flourish and it has all been very satisfying.
