The railway administration has taken action against those travelling in local trains with fake identification. The local trains in Mumbai were allowed to operate under ‘Mission Begin Again’ but only for employees working in the essential sectors.

A QR code identification is required to travel in the local trains but there are many cases where people have created fake identification. The central railway is arresting passengers travelling in local trains with fake identification. So far, 150 identity cards have been confiscated, 80 per cent of which are in the name of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Earlier, the railway administration took action against 2,100 people travelling on local trains on the basis of fake identity cards of BMC employees, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, medical staff and other departments.

Employees working in essential sectors were allowed to travel in local trains from June 15. Currently, more than 2 lakh passengers are travelling in Central Railway. The private sector employees who live in Kalyan, Dombivali, Badlapur, Karjat and Kasara have to suffer a lot while travelling by road.

The cases of people travelling with fake identification are increasing on a daily basis and the railway administration is trying to curb the same. The fake IDs are recognised and seized at railway stations only.

Meanwhile, the ladies passengers have been allowed to travel in local trains after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal approved the same. However, some have expressed their displeasure with the government over the issue of timings.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government wrote to railway administration to allow the ladies to travel in local trains from Saturday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM onwards.
