As the COVID-19 tally in Mumbai crossed the 2-lakh-mark on Monday, September 28, the Mumbai Police have so far collected a fine of ₹28.55 crores amidst the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

The Police have been cracking down on the people violating the norms imposed by the state for a while now. The state so far has registered 2,71,000 offences under section 188 and 1,347 offences against vehicles. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, speaking to the media, stated the same and appealed to the people to corporate with the Police, especially in the midst of the pandemic. Deshmukh further stated that up until now, 37,442 people have been arrested whereas 96,466 vehicles have been seized.

On the other hand, there were 364 instances of assault on the Police. As a result, 895 people have been arrested so far as further action is awaited. A total of 241 police personnel or officers which include 217 police personnel and 24 officers in the state have succumbed to the disease in their ongoing efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, control rooms have been set up all over the state for the police to take immediate action if they notice any symptoms related to the disease. The Home Minister had earlier appealed to all the citizens of the state to cooperate by following the social distancing rules and abide by the protocols imposed by the state in order to safeguard each other.
