Kamala Mills fire update: All five accused sent to judicial custody until January 31

The five accused in the Kamala Mills fire case will be held in judicial custody until January 31. Mojo’s Bistro owner Yug Pathak, Yug Tuli and 1Above's owners Kripesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi and Abhijeet Mankar are likely to be kept in Arthur Road jail.

All five accused were in police custody until January 17 and on Wednesday, the accused were presented at Bhoiwada court after which they were given judicial custody.

Post Kamala Mills fire incident which claimed 14 lives, N M Joshi Marg police began looking out for the accused who were on the run. Initially, it was reported that the fire started in 1Above and likewise the owners of the restaurant were arrested. However, after the fire audit report, it was clear that the fire began in Mojo’s Bistro and that too due to a hookah. Immediately, N M Joshi Marg police started looking out for the owners of Mojo’s Bistro and were arrested after 14 days of the incident. 

All five accused were presented in Bhoiwada court on Wednesday where the public prosecutor asked to extend the police custody saying that they still want to interrogate and have to get more evidence. But the lawyers of the accused said that they have co-operated with the police and asked for judicial custody and a bail. 

The court then sentenced the accused to judicial custody until January 31 and scheduled a hearing for the bail application which will take place on January 22.
