Maratha Kranti Morcha: Police files complaint against 155 protestors in five days across the state

Owing to the Maratha Kranti protest, the last five days saw violent protests in Mumbai and across Maharashtra. In these five days, total of 155 complaints have been filed and more than 1000 protestors were arrested for pelting stones at policemen at more than 86 places. In Navi Mumbai’s Kalamboli, police had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

From July 20, Maratha Kranti Morcha's agitation began across the state demanding reservation in jobs and education. Many Maratha outfit groups believe that it is because of the state government’s callous attitude, the protestors became violent. This was topped by Kakasaheb Shinde’s demise, this further created the tension amongst the protestors. 

155 police complaints were filed against protestors in the span of five days

  • July 20- 19 cases
  • July 21- 20 cases
  • July 22- 30 cases
  • July 23- 27 cases

Stone pelting cases were also reported in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Satara, Pune rural, Solapur, Palghar, Raigad and other 40 areas.

In Satara, due to stone pelting, along with police officers, two policemen were injured. Hence, in order to disperse the crowd, police used tear gas. Meanwhile, in Aurangabad, police constable Laxman Kadgaonkar suffered a heart attack while running behind the crowd. In Mankhurd, buses were damaged and torched.
