So far, 14 policemen from the state have succumbed to COVID-19 whereas the tally of COVID-19 deceased policemen in Mumbai has reached 11. Alongside, 1,388 police personnel across Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus, of which, 618 are from Mumbai.
Coming back to the two recent deaths, ASI Pingle was suffering from hypertension and diabetes and lived in a congested locality in Ghatkopar. According to an official, a couple of cases of coronavirus had been reported from the locality where Pingle lived and the residents even shared a common toilet. This raises the doubt if he had contracted the infection there.
Pingle had been on leave since April 26 and on May 6, he developed a fever and took a test for COVID-19. He was initially admitted to Bal Thackeray Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari but later moved to Seven Hills Hospital at Andheri.
Similar to Pingle, Constable Chaudhary also suffered from diabetes and hypertension. The deceased constable lived at Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli with his family and was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital as he developed symptoms of COVID-19 five days ago. While he was later shifted to Seven Hills Hospital, he succumbed to coronavirus during the treatment.
While 1,388 policemen have been tested positive so far, 428 police personnel have recovered from the infection.
