Mumbai: Cyber Fraud of INR 3.63 Crore Reported; Two People Arrested

An accountant from Dahisar was cyber-defrauded of about INR 3.5 crore under the guise of promising good returns from investment in the stock market. The accused created a fake trading application and pretended that the complainant was getting good profits through it. 

In this case, the South Regional Cyber Police took action in the Goregaon and Kashimira areas and arrested two people. It has been found that one of the accused was creating a fake company and accepting cyber fraud money in his bank account. 

The 21-year-old complainant, a resident of Dahisar, works as an accountant. He also works on a partnership basis in some companies. He invests in the share market. 

The accused contacted him through WhatsApp and asked them to join a group called Ganapati Trade. After the complainant joined, it was seen that investing based on the information provided on that group was profitable. Many members of the group were sharing screenshots of their profits in the short group. This convinced the complainant.

The complainant was then sent a link and asked to join the premium group. There, the complainant was sent a link and asked to download the application Mass99. The complainant deposited 3 crore 63 lakh rupees little by little on that app. After that, when the complainant tried to withdraw the amount, the amount could not be withdrawn. When the group admin was contacted regarding this, he asked to pay more to withdraw the amount. 

The complainant realised that he had been cheated. He filed a complaint with the Southern Regional Cyber Police. The police registered a case and started an investigation. Finally, the police recently arrested Adnan Shamshuddin Khan (27) and Mohammad Tanveer Mohammad Imtiaz Khan (31) in this case.

During the investigation, the complainant was asked to deposit money from his bank account on March 21. Out of this, 4 lakh 89 thousand rupees was transferred to a bank account. The account holder withdrew the amount through a cheque. It was found that the account belonged to accused Adnan. Khan was then arrested from Kashimira.

In this case, INR 19 lakh was transferred to different bank accounts. It was learnt that the amount was deposited in the account of a company called CWFS Pvt. Ltd. Investigation revealed that the company did not exist. The director of that company was searched for. Accordingly, Tanveer was arrested from Goregaon.
