On Tuesday, August 17, Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deshmukh was once again summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

This comes amidst the money laundering probe into the alleged misuse of office and bribery case. According to reports, officials stated, "Yes, we have sent a summons to Deshmukh for questioning."

Moreover, this happens to be the fifth summons by the ED to the NCP leader in connection with the case. This comes a day after the Supreme Court refused to grant interim relief to Deshmukh, who had sought protection from any coercive action in a money-laundering case.

On the other hand, earlier, the ED had attached assets worth approximately INR 4 crores of Anil Deshmukh, former Home Minister of Maharashtra in a money laundering case.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), a provisional order has been issued attaching a residential flat worth INR1.54 crore in Worli in Mumbai, and 25 land parcels valued at INR 2.67 crore in Dhutum village in the Raigad district. The Worli flat is said to be registered in the name of his wife. These attached properties are "beneficially owned" by the former Home Minister state the central probe agency. Deshmukh's properties in Mumbai and Nagpur were raided by the agency last month, apart from that of his accomplices and others. Additionally, his personal secretary Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde have also been arrested.
