Amidst the coronavirus induced lockdown, the Police in Mumbai busted two miscreants by the name Gautam Sharma and Sandesh Navandar who have allegedly been selling fake, adulterated butter. As per reports, the accused would sell the butter under the brand name of Amul.

This comes after the crime branch of Mumbai Police seized a vehicle laden with adulterated butter worth ₹8,52,000 in the area of Bandra East. Moreover, due to the extended lockdown, several people have started cooking more at home, therefore, these miscreants decided to capitalize on the opportunity and initiated the business of selling adulterated butter under an established brand name.

A few days back, a complaint was lodged at the Azad Maidan Police Station alleging the theft of 100 kg of butter and cheese from the famous Canon Pavbhaji Center shop in the CST area of Mumbai. Police have finally arrested Santosh Thapa (20) and Karan Jadhav (25) in connection with the theft. The two confessed to the crime stating that they had stolen the food in the midst of the lockdown.

In the past, the Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh had appealed to the people to patronize neighbourhood shops for essential shopping like groceries. On the other hand, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued fresh guidelines for the third phase of Unlock, which has begun from August 1. The process of phased re-opening of activities has been extended and ensures further dilution of the lockdown. Despite Unlock 3, strict lockdown will be enforced in containment zones across the country till August 31.
