In connection to 28-year-old Kirti Vyas’s murder, Mumbai Crime Branch produced the couple Siddhesh Tamhankar (28) and Khushi Sahajwani (42) before the magistrate court on Thursday, which remanded them to judicial custody until May 31, 2018. Initially, the couple had been remanded into the police custody for 14 days.

When Mumbai Crime Branch officials were unsuccessful in recovering Vyas’s body, they approached Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seeking help to carry out a search operation at the mangrove patch at Wadala-Mahul Port Trust Road. For the past 15 days, fishing boats and drones have been deployed for the search, but to no avail.

Vyas was last seen on March 16 in the morning when she was picked up by Tamhankar and Sahajwani in a Ford EcoSport outside her home in Bharat Nagar on Grant Road. The duo allegedly offered Vyas to drop her to work. Vyas was a finance manager at Bblunt’s Andheri (West) branch, while Tamhankar was her junior in the same department and Sahajwani was a trainer in another department.

Police have retrieved two drops of blood from the mat placed in Sahjwani’s car and the same sent it to the forensic lab for a DNA check. The blood drops matched with Vyas’s DNA, following which, the Crime Branch arrested the duo on May 4, 2018, on the charges of murder.
