Finally, police across the state will get a modernised police control rooms which were the need of the hour. The state has planned to spend INR 400 crores which will reduce the response time and improve management across the state. Further, the government believes that after revamping the control rooms, it will take only 8 minutes to response in cities and 15-18 minutes in rural areas.

Currently, when a person calls on police helpline, one has to provide a detailed address which is usually time-consuming. However, after modernising, GPS-tagging of the calls will help police to track the spot from where the call is received, say reports. He added that the state is also planning to bring in complaint facilities via text messages, emails and WhatsApp.

By next year, the plan is to shift to 112 as a single number for all emergencies. It's a part of the Union home ministry’s efforts to have one central emergency number for the entire country like 911 in the US. 

Maha government is also planning to bring new tracking system technology for vehicles.
