Recently, a citizen redressal forum raised the issue of gas cylinders being piled up illegally at a residential area in Kandivali. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was tagged in a tweet with the complaint. Much to the surprise of the forum members, civic officials as well as the Deputy Mayor Suhas Wadkar, reached the location within two hours and seized a dozen of the stacked cylinders.

The complaint was raised by Mumbai North Central District Forum (@MNCDFbombay) via Twitter.

“Ma’am Mayor @KishoriPednekar bringing to ur urgent notice, trucks turned into Gas cylinder godowns. As per ur request we’re tagging @mybmc! BMC, Police & State Govt will be solely responsible in case of mishap. Location: Near Poinsur Gymkhana near Pushpanjali Build, Kandivali (W),” the tweet read.

Member of the forum, lawyer Trivan Karnani said that the decision to get Pednekar’s attention came after the Mayor recently asked citizens to submit complaints about illegal holding and piling of gas cylinders in their areas.

Karnani mentioned that this particular complaint came from a resident of Poinsur, Borivali West. “Generally, one does not see such speedy action however sensitive the issue maybe, but this time, it coming from the mayor herself was definitely welcome,” Karnani said.

Additional Municipal Commissioner of the R Central Ward, Sanjay Kurhade said, “The trucks with many gas cylinders park in residential areas and undertake distribution which can be harmful. Ideally, they should distribute them from the godown itself. Therefore, we seized some.”

Speaking to TOI, Mayor Pednekar said that addressing a citizen’s concerns is always a priority. “Whichever issues I feel can be resolved immediately I step up and give directions to get it done,” she was quoted as saying.

Deputy Mayor Wadkar mentioned that he was at the inauguration of a chowk when he received the call from the Mayor to address the issue directly.

“She told me to go myself and ensure action is taken. I called up local police and BMC officials, and headed to the site,” Wadkar said.
