Underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim’s sharpshooter arrested

Mumbai Police’s anti-extortion cell arrested most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide and sharpshooter Ramdas Rahane on Friday. The court has granted him police custody until June 30, 2018. He was wanted in Mumbai and Gujarat for 11 serious crimes. It is believed that the interrogation would reveal names of other sharpshooters.

Between 1999 and 2001, one Indian businessman opened a restaurant in Dubai. The Businessman’s friend had invested five lakh dirhams in his project. In 2001, on Dawood’s instructions, Rahane killed the businessman’s friend. Later, D- gang threatened the businessman and asked him to hand over the money his friend had invested. Likewise, he sold his hotel and handed over the money to Dawood.

After few days, D- gang called the businessman and asked for ₹50 lakh as extortion. He was told to give ₹5 lakh on an urgent basis to Rahane. The businessman then approached Mumbai Police Anti-Extortion Cell and informed about the extortion call. Meanwhile, the cell found out that the gang had ordered Rahane to kill the businessman and had received money as well. Likewise, they provided him security and also started searching for the sharpshooter.

Meanwhile, senior police inspector Ajay Sawant found out that Rahane will be visiting Mumbai. Police inspector Sachin Kadam, assistant police inspector Vanjari, Pawar and other police constables laid a trap and arrested him on Friday.

After his arrest, police searched his house in Ahmednagar and seized one pistol and two cartridges.

During the interrogation, Rahane informed that he was asked to kill people who were on Dawood’s radar. It is also being said that the gang has suffered a major setback with Rahane’s arrest.

We believe that Rahane will reveal names of other sharpshooters and close aides of Dawood,” Dilip Sawant, DCP.

Ahmednagar resident Rahane has been working for Dawood’s gang for many years now. He is known to be on the list of Dawood’s top shooters. He was the main accused in 2011 murder case of businessman Dholakia.
