According to the latest reports, one of the main accused in the 'fake' vaccination drive, Rajesh Pandey, was arrested by Mumbai police on Wednesday, June 30.

The key accused was a resident of Baramati. He was apprehended from Baramati lake on Wednesday, over a fortnight after the scam came to light at Kandivali-based society Hiranandani Heritage and nine other locations where a similar drive was conducted. The tenth FIR was filed in connection with the vaccination drive at Kwan Talent Management company.

With Pandey's arrest, the total number of accused arrested reached 12.

A former marketing executive of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Pandey, has been accused in five of the 10 cases filed in various fake vaccination drives in Mumbai for cheating nearly 2700 people.

Soon after Pandey was named as the main accused and it was revealed that he had misused Kokilaben Ambani hospital's name, they managed to get a handwritten statement from him where he confessed to conducting these unauthorised vaccination drives. The hospital subsequently terminated him from his services and he had been absconding since then. Pandey had approached the Dindoshi sessions court last month for anticipatory bail but it was rejected.

Apart from Kandivali’s plush society, on June 4, he tricked a private company at Amboli with another fraudulent inoculation drive, swindling INR 2.94 lakhs.

However, on June 14, the matter came to light after the residents tweeted that they did not suffer any side effects and that many did not receive vaccination certificates. Those who got certificates issued from the CoWIN app said the vaccination centre names were forged. In addition, his name has come up in three more drives at Versova, Borivali and Khar.

Meanwhile, a police investigation has revealed that a total of 2,666 people were duped by the accused in 10 unauthorised vaccination drives, while at least two more drives are under scanner, the latest being at Andheri (E), where over 1,000 people of a gold company were inoculated.
