Three out of six police chowkies under the Govandi Police station have not been functional for sometime. One of them has been converted into a makeshift marble tile shop. These non functional police chowkies have also encouraged the local hooligans to create problems for the locals.
Shivajinagar and Govandi are highly congested areas. The Rafique nagar Chowky has turned into dilapidated ruin where as the Padmanagar chowky has been locked for ages.
Cases of theft and harassment have increased do to the lack of police presence at these chowkies.
Locals have time and again demanded that these chowkies be restarted but the police department seems to be immune to these demands. Though Senior Police Inspector of Shivajinagar police station Bhimrao Dole did assure that these chowkies will be restarted, renovated and staff would be allocated at the earliest.
