According to the latest reports, a Mumbai court has given the death penalty to the Sakinaka rape-murder accused. It has been reported that the special court awarded the death penalty to Mohan Chauhan the convict of murder and rape of the victim.

Based on accounts, a Dindoshi sessions court in the city awarded the death penalty to Chauhan in regard to the rape of a woman (30) in Andheri's Sakinaka in September 2021. Later, the woman passed away at the hospital.

Earlier on May 30, a sessions court in the city had convicted the man of raping and murdering the woman. These occurrences came eight months after the gruesome incident in Sakinaka that transpired on September 10.

Narratives suggest that while the minimum sentence was life imprisonment, the maximum was death. The prosecution reportedly examined 37 witnesses and CCTV footage which corroborated that the woman was last with Chauhan till November.

In addition to this, the prosecution highlighted medical evidence which depicted how the injuries caused by Chauhan caused the woman’s death

A CCTV camera caught Chouhan assaulting the victim and pulling her towards a tempo, where he sexually assaulted her. A watchman saw the injured woman and apprised the police.

The police took her to a hospital in Ghatkopar where a day later she died. In a charge sheet, the police had alleged that the accused was angry with the victim for refusing to have sex with him.
