On Tuesday, May 9, a Delhi court framed charges of murder, tampering with evidence against accused Aftab Poonawala in the Shraddha Warkar murder case. Poonawala was accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Warkar.
Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana Kakkar said prima facie a case was made out against the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing evidence of offence) of the IPC.
Poonawala, however, has denied the allegations and has demanded a trial. The matter has been scheduled for further proceedings on June 1. The Delhi Police had filed a 6,629-page charge sheet regarding the case on January 24.
Poonawala had allegedly strangled Walkar on May 18 last year, after which he cut her body into pieces and kept it in a refrigerator for about three weeks at his residence in south Delhi's Mehrauli. To avoid being caught, he scattered the pieces at different places in Delhi.
