In a tragic accident, Maharashtra State-Level carrom player Janhavi More lost her life after getting hit by an overspeeding truck while crossing the road. On a fateful Sunday evening, Janhavi was crossing the road at a busy junction near her house in Dombivli after a five-hour practice session, and a speeding truck hit her. After which, she was declared dead at a nearby hospital minutes later.

The 20-year-old victim was coached by her father since she was five-years-old. She wished to represent India in carrom but now her family said that it would just be a mere dream. Her family alleged that the accident had been caused due to congestion, poor traffic management, and dysfunctional traffic signals.

When the accident happened, Janhavi's friend Ashay Pimputkar was present and he stated that it happened after they had left from Janhavi's home, where they had been practicing for five hours. He added that at around 6:00 pm, when they were crossing the road, the traffic police gestured a truck to stop but as soon as the traffic police turned, the driver jumped the signal and ran over Janhavi, who was then taken to Neon hospital at Padle village.

The police said that the accused driver has been arrested under IPC sections 304 A (death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and others.
