On Tuesday, June 14, the Thane city police commissionerate's website was allegedly hacked, reported the news agency PTI. A message appeared on it and was supposedly aimed at the Indian government which sought an apology to "Muslims all over the world". 

According to the account, a senior police official had confirmed that the website was hacked. The official was quoted in the narrative elaborating on how they have contacted the concerned agencies to initiate the requisite action. The official added that the Thane cyber crime team was also working on it. 

Based on the narratives, a message on the screen that appeared upon opening the website read, "Hacked by one hat cyber team" It further mentioned, "Hello Indian Government, Hello everyone. Again and again, you make trouble with the problem of the Islamic Religion..." "Hurry up and apologize to Muslims all over the world!! We don't stand still when our apostle is insulted," the message said.

Commenting on this during a press conference, Maharashtra Home Minister, Dilip Walse Patil elucidated that many websites across India have been hacked in the last two days and similar messages have been posted. He added that Cyber Police is investigating the matter in addition to ADG Madhukar Pandey is probing it as well. 

Moreover, the state home department declared that the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has ordered the restoration of the hacked state government websites as it commences enquiry. 

Sunil Lokhande, DCP, Cyber Cell, Thane Police later in the day confirmed that the Thane Police website was hacked in the morning at nearly 4 am. He added that a probe was done by the cyber team and the experts have recovered the data as well restored the website. He highlighted that further investigation is underway, narratives cited. 

Similarly, while interacting with the media, Pandey said that they have restored many websites with considerable yet to follow the suit. He brought to light that over 70 websites were attacked from which three were government ones followed by private university websites. He claims that the hacked websites are over 500.
