In an attempt to flee from a courtroom, two members of the Suresh Pujari gang flung chilli powder chutney into to eyes of the police escorts on Monday. S.S Nege, a constable attached to the local arms division was injured in the commotion as one of the accused punched him right in his eye when they tried to block their way out.

The two accused have been identified as Ali Abbas Khan and Raj Chauhan who were earlier arrested by Thane crime branch and were produced in the 37th metropolitan magistrate court in an Arms Act case registered by Mumbai Police’s anti-extortion cell. The incident took place around 01:30 PM, just before the lunch break. Sources suspect that the accused got the chutney from the vada pav served to them before being brought to the court.

The duo has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty and resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension.
