The first season of the City of Dreams was a pleasant surprise. Priya Bapat had managed to impress one and all with her role. There were so many layers to her character and she managed to deliver flawless performance.

Now the show is back with a season 2. Disney+ Hotstar started streaming from July 30. The show has 10 episodes of 40 to 50 minutes each. The show begins from where it left. Following the events that transpired in the first season of the show, Poornima Gaikwad has been made the interim Chief Minister of the state.  She thinks she has read the Gaikwad playbook and is all set to mark her rule. While the tactics she had used to get the power may not have been applause-worthy, but she wants to rule in a fair and applause-worthy manner. The only thing stopping her from doing so is her father. The old man might be confined to the wheelchair but that is not stopping him from scheming and plotting. He is leaving no stone unturned to get back into power or get Poornima out of the race.

In the first two episodes only, one gets the answers to all the lingering questions one may have from season 1. The pace of the season and the impact that it wishes to create is not as powerful as season 1.

The one thing that remains consistent in both seasons is the acting of Priya Bapat. She has done a commendable job in this season as well.  Another woman that leaves an impact in this season is Flora Saini. She did not have much to do in season 1 but in this season she manages to leave an impact with her acting and screen presence. Sachin Pilgaonkar and Atul Kulkarni are two other actors that deserve a special mention.

It is a high-octane political drama and the constant struggle between the father and daughter keep the audience glued. However, there are too many loopholes in the storyline and some of the aspects become very predictable. The show strives to be India's House of Cards, but in the season it does not manage to have that kind of an impact.
